The End of an Era
April 2005

The Out House is set to close following a meeting with it's membership. The Management Committee held a special general meeting on Sunday 10th April to discuss the proposed dissolution of the Out House. Although the turn out from the membership was disappointing the meeting was quorate and the vote went ahead with an overwhelming majority voting to give the Management Committee permission to start any paperwork and legal procedures necessary for dissolution.

However, the question still remains as to how the remaining funds will be distributed and the Out House has asked for proposals from it's membership to be made by 14th May 2005. The Management Committee will be calling a further meeting with the membership after this date.

If you are a current member then we urge you to make your voice heard, remember if you do not put your ideas forward then we cannot take them into account.

Biddy has left the building
April 2005

Biddy McMeel has come to the end of her contract and has sadly moved on. Biddy joined the Out House as Volunteer Co-Ordinator back in 2002 when we still had the Cranbrook Street building, Jonathan Harvey's 'Beautiful Thing' was on at the Playhouse, and Nottingham Pride was a distant memory.

During Biddy's time at the Out House she undertook many projects, some more successful than others, but the most memorable must be Nottingham Pride. Biddy says "Nottingham has the 7th largest LGBT population in the country, it made no sense to be one of the few cities without an event" and it was with this in mind she set about restarting the Pride.

Biddy took up the position of Chair and with a handful of willing volunteers Nottingham Pride returned to the scene in August 2003. As we all know the day was a fabulous success but getting there had been a mixture of blood, sweat and the occasional tear. The dedication of all involved speaks for itself and the event continues to develop as one of the most significant events in our LGBT calendar.

Biddy will be missed by all here at the Out House and we wish her well in the future.
